Republic and hearts of Ireland midfielder Glenn Whelan admits before going to Hearts to improve his odds of playing at Euro 2020 he had offers from nightclubs overseas.
Aston Villa after their promotion into the Premier League in the summer released whelan months, before joining Hearts to a one-year-contract in August after deliberating about a movement abroad.
The 35-year-old admitted that he consulted with before deciding which team to join in an effort Ireland manager Mick McCarthy to prolong his international career.
Whelan said:I talked to the supervisor. I had one or even two choices abroad that were interesting at that time.
The boss was not overly excited to be honest since the league wasnt probably as powerful as where Im playing now or where I had been at. He needs me attempting to play as large and competitively as much as I can.
If it was down to cash I would be gone in sunlight somewhere at the moment. However, for me its never been about cash or earning a specific wage.
I am happy playing soccer and that is all that I need to do, so for me it was about getting the club right for the family members and to have a chance playing Ireland.
Should Ireland qualify for the European Championships their collection fixtures will be staged from the Aviva Stadium of Dublin and also Whelan insists when picking Hearts this was a big factor for him.
He said:I want to play Ireland in the Euros, therefore that I spoke to some people and I believe in the end, Hearts was the ideal decision for me.
Even when I spoke to the Hearts boss , I told him basically I need to play so long as I can as high as I am because Id like to have a great chance of qualifying and I would like to still be around and become part of it.
I think itll suit me. The manager at Hearts was really good to me, hes given me time off to go and see the family and go and spend hours down so its been OK.
Top of Circle now sit however, they face tough competition from Switzerland and Denmark for the two Euro 2020 qualification places.
Whelan added:We are still miles away [qualifying]. Weve got three enormous games. We all know which may be removed from us although the place that we are in is a great place.
It is an important sport off to Georgia. Get the right outcome there and that is going to give us confidence going into the other two, but youve got to take each game as it comes
Ireland will travel to Tblisi to perform Georgia on Saturday before a key outside fixture with Switzerland three days after, both matches live on Sky Sports.
