Hearts and Republic of Ireland midfielder Glenn Whelan admits before moving to Hearts to improve his odds of playing at Euro 2020 he had offers from nightclubs overseas.
Aston Villa after their promotion into the Premier League in summer time released whelan months, before joining Hearts to a one-year-contract at August after deliberating about a movement abroad.
The 35-year-old admitted that he consulted prior to determining which group to join in an effort Ireland manager Mick McCarthy to prolong his career.
Whelan said:I spoke to the supervisor. I had one or two options overseas that were very interesting.
The supervisor was not overly excited to be honest because the league wasnt likely as powerful as where Im playing now or where I had been at. So he wants me attempting to perform large and as far as I can.
When it had been down to cash I would be gone in the sun somewhere at the moment. But for me it has never been about cash or earning a specific wage.
I am happy playing football and thats all I need to do, so for me it was about getting the club right for your family and to have an opportunity playing for Ireland.
Should Ireland qualify for the European Championships their collection fixtures will be staged from Dublins Aviva Stadium and also Whelan insists when picking Hearts that this was a major factor for him.
He explained:I need to play Ireland at the Euros, therefore I spoke to some people and I think ultimately, Hearts was the right choice for me.
Even when I talked to the Hearts boss , I told him basically I need to play so long as I can as high as I am because I would like to have a excellent likelihood of qualifying and I would like to be around and be part of it.
I think itll suit me. The manager at Hearts has been really great for me personally, he has given me some time off to go and see the family and go and spend hours down there so it has been OK.
Ireland now sit top of Circle however, they face competition from Switzerland and Denmark for both Euro 2020 qualification places that are automatic.
Whelan added:We are still miles off [qualifying]. Weve got three massive games. The position that we are in is a position that is great but we all know that may be taken away from us enough.
Its an important game off to Georgia. Get the perfect result there and that will give us confidence going in the other two, however, you have to just take every match as it comes.
Three days afterwards ireland will journey to perform Georgia on Saturday prior to a fixture with Switzerland, both games live on Sky Sports.
